CrossFit for Kids
CrossFit for Kids is a strength and conditioning program designed for children ages 6 and up. Every workout is scaled age appropriate. The program focuses on building an athletic foundation through education and practical use of body mechanics and skill demonstration. Children will improve discipline, focus, concentration and coordination. The emphasis is placed on developing the 10 general physical skills widely recognized by exercise physiologist: Endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy.
Improvements in endurance, stamina, strength, and flexibility come about through training. Training refers to activity that improves performance through measurable organic change in the body, greater muscle mass or greater VO2 capacity for example. By contrast improvements in coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy come about through practice. Practice refers to activity that improves performance through changes in the nervous system. Power and speed are adaptations of both training and practice.
The value of a solid foundation in fitness cannot be overstated. CrossFit AZ is committed to developing high standards of fitness in children and adults. With the lack of physical education in schools today, it is more important now than ever to involve children in physical activity that is fun, challenging, and educational.
